HIPAA Technical Safeguards
Healthcare organizations are facing the challenge of safeguarding Electronic Protected Health Information (EPHI), such as electronic health records, from various internal and external threats. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), among other important topics, addresses confidentially, integrity, and availability of patients’ health information. The rule titled “Security Standards for the Protection of Electronic Protected Health Information,” found at 45 CFR Part 160 and Part 164, Subparts A and C, commonly known as the Security Rule, covers the administrative, physical, and technical safeguards. SECROM addresses all of these security aspects, though, this datasheet is devoted to the standards for HIPAA Technical Safeguards and their implementation in the SECROM Unified Communications (UC) solution. This document assumes that the reader is familiar with the basics of the Security Rule.
